Coelacanth


This is the famous Coelacanth sketch by Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer. She was curator of the East London Museum in East London, South Africa when local fishermen showed her the fish she described as having a "strange puppy-dog tail." This sketch was sent to her friend J.L.B. Smith in 1938. Smith classified the fish and named the genus, Latimeria, after her.
